When trying to start either Eclipse or ADD Web, users may encounter an IIS error page which prints the error message "Version string portion was too short or too long" along with a lengthy stack trace.

This error message typically indicates that the authorization service is either not online, or cannot be reached by the component in question.

First check to ensure that your authorization service is running, and that no firewall is blocking access to it. By default, the authorization service operates on port 9800, but another port may have been selected during setup. If the authorization service is running, try restarting it to see if this resolves the error.
