I have a single item that is causing an EDD session to fail or take to long

When an item during an EDD session is taking to long to discover/process, then close eScan-IT and re-open eScan-IT. Then, restart the EDD session without retrying the last item. This will fail that item and the item can then be retried in a QC session after completion of the EDD session.
